Kindergarten students in Copiague received an up-close and hands-on lesson in animals when Janine Bendicksen, curator from Sweetbriar Nature Center, visited the students. During the visit, the students were introduced to Henrietta the chicken, Midnight the rabbit, Monty the snake, and box and sea turtles Myrtle and Fred. Throughout the fifty-minute presentations, the kindergartners were given the opportunity to pet and feed the animals and learn about their natural habitats, all in an effort to educate the students about some of their animal friends. The students prepared for Ms. Bendicksen’s visit by studying hibernation, migration, and adaptation in their science unit, according to kindergarten teacher Natalia Brite.
