Kindergarten students from Copiague’s Deauville Gardens East and Deauville Gardens West elementary schools received a hands-on lesson in mammals, birds and reptiles during a visit with Sweetbriar Nature Center. Throughout the 50-minute presentations, the kindergartners were given the opportunity to pet the animals and learn about their natural habitats and the difference between cold- and warm-blooded animals, all in an effort to educate the students about some of their animal friends. During the visit, the students were introduced to Henrietta the chicken, a box turtle and a water turtle, a ball python snake, a chinchilla and a hedgehog.
