For a week in March, the students at Copiague’s Great Neck Road Elementary School received a hands-on lesson in circus skills. Two representatives from the National Circus Project, a cultural arts organization that preserves and promotes the traditional circus arts through education and entertainment, visited the physical education classes and taught the students various activities.
During the PTA-sponsored event, the students learned such skills as juggling, balancing, plate spinning and devil stick manipulation. Culminating the weeklong lessons, the fifth-grade students performed a circus act for their fellow students utilizing their newly learned skills.
