To commemorate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Booster Club presented a plaque to long-time Copiague resident and ardent supporter of the Girls Varsity Basketball team Mrs. Dollie Calandrino.
Mrs. Calandrino has lived in Copiague for more than 50 years, and during that time worked at both the former Scudder Avenue Elementary School and Copiague Junior High School. “She has always been an avid fan of our school, starting when her own children attended, through today,” said Director of Physical Education and Athletics Pete Cesare.
The National Girls and Women in Sports Day is celebrated in all 50 states as a way of honoring the achievements and encouraging participation of girls and women in sports. Pictured left to right: Booster Club President Toni Clemens, Dollie Calandrino, and Booster Club Vice President Teri Simone
