Every year, New York State reserves one week in October to recognize the dedication of school board members. School Board Recognition Week serves as an opportunity for faculty members, students, and community residents to acknowledge and thank their Board of Education members.
To celebrate School Board Recognition Week, members of the Copiague Middle School Chamber Chorus entertained the crowd by performing two musical numbers prior to the October 24 Board meeting. Under the direction of Marc Levenson, the students sang “Once Upon a Time” from the Broadway musical Brooklyn and Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.”
During the ceremony honoring the Board, Superintendent of Schools Charles A. Leunig praised the Board for their commitment to the Copiague students. “Our Board dedicates countless hours to serving the students and community of Copiague. Not only do they volunteer their time for our District, but they’re also each actively involved with numerous community organizations. We are privileged to have, in my opinion, the best Board of Education, whose sole focus is to provide best opportunities for our students.”
To thank the Board, members of the PTA Council, Copiague Teachers Association, Copiague Principals Association, Copiague Supervisory Association, Copiague Clerical Association, and the Copiague Teacher Aides and Assistants donated funds to various charities, local organizations, and scholarships in the name of each Board member.
