In memory of 2005 Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School graduate Sean Lapersonerie, members of the high school’s Key Club raised and donated $500 to the Hope For The Warriors foundation. According to its website, the mission of Hope For The Warriors is to enhance quality of life for U.S. service members and their families nationwide who have been adversely affected by injuries or death in the line of duty. To thank the students for their contribution to the foundation, Sergeant Debevoise, a wounded Iraqi War veteran, visited the Key Club and its advisors JoAnn Erwin and Jennifer Phillips. According to Mrs. Erwin, the students were inspired by Sergeant Debevoise’s personal story of overcoming four gunshot wounds and subsequent paralysis with the help of donations to the Hope For The Warriors organization.
