It was a night to remember at the annual Walter G. O'Connell Copiague High School’s Pops Concert. Kicking off the show was the Madrigal Choir, directed by Gina Occhiogrosso, with an explosive performance of Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite,” followed by director Eric Dobmeier and the concert band’s performance of selections from “Les Misérables.”
Throughout the high-energy show, audience members were treated to individual and group performances of popular songs from today and yesterday, including current hits such as Psy’s “Gangnam Style” and The Wanted’s “Glad You Came,” as well as older favorites “Jesse’s Girl” by Rick Springfield and Cyndi Lauper’s famous female anthem “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” The night concluded with a show-stopping performance of Fun’s “Some Nights” by the chorus and drum line.
The jazz band also performed three selections, including the Hoagy Carmichael version of “Georgia on My Mind.”
