Johanna Hurowitz, a renowned children’s book author, recently visited the students at Great Neck Road Elementary School in Copiague. During her visit, the award-winning writer spoke to the students about her experiences as an author, how she began writing children’s books, how she gets her ideas for her books, and how a book is put together. Mrs. Hurowitz, who has written more than 60 books, also brought along with her the first book she ever wrote. The book, written on lined paper and stapled together, was written when she was in elementary school. Following her presentation, the students were given the opportunity to ask questions. Mrs. Hurwitz is a best-selling author of over five dozen books for young readers, such as Class Clown, Teacher's Pet, Busybody Nora, Russell and Elisa, PeeWee's Tale, Baseball Fever, and New Shoes for Silvia, among others. Prior to publishing, she worked as a librarian in the New York Public Library and in a variety of other public and school library positions.
