Copiague Middle School social studies teacher Stephen Cooney was named Outstanding Middle School/Junior High School Social Studies Teacher by the Long Island Council for the Social Studies. Mr. Cooney was nominated by Lisa Dunn, Social Studies Chairperson K-12, for his knowledge in social studies content as well as knowledge of current social studies issues; and his effective and inspiring methods as a social studies teacher, including the ability to convey the importance and vitality of social studies to his students.
Mr. Cooney was honored at an awards ceremony held on May 24 at the Sheraton Long Island Hotel.
