Copiague School District Boasts Record Number of Advanced Placement Scholars

The Copiague School District is proud to announce that 27 current and former Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School students have qualified as Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars, the largest number in District history. The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students’ performance on AP Exams. At the high school, ten students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more exams. These students are: Darryl Bethay (Class of 2010) Emily Hall (Class of 2011) Daniel Handy (Class of 2011) Mariusz Kreciewski (Class of 2010) Eric Maratta (Class of 2010) Jacob Ohrnberger (Class of 2011) Justin Roethel (Class of 2010) Marta Sulima (Class of 2010) Monika Sulima (Class of 2010) Maxwell Woelk (Class of 2011) Three students qualified as AP Scholars with Honors by earning an average grade of at least a 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more exams. Congratulations to: Nicole Mangels (Class of 2011) Shanice McKenzie (Class of 2011) Michael Vandermark (Class of 2010) Fourteen of our students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing 3 or more AP Exams with grades of 3 or higher.
