Formed in 1991, the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Band Parents Association is celebrating its 20th anniversary this school year. To recognize their time and effort dedicated to the award-winning marching band, John Wevers, director of the band, honored past presidents and the high school-hosted Tournament of Bands. “The Band Parents Association has been the backbone of our band program for all of these many years,” remarked Mr. Wevers. “The advent of the parents group allowed me to focus more on teaching rather than the many things that they do.”
The mission of the Copiague High School Band Parents Association is to enhance the musical experiences and opportunities of students in the Copiague High School Marching Band and Color Guard program. This enhancement includes providing equipment, flags, food, and moral support to the students before and after each competition. The Band Parents Association also presents four scholarships each year to graduating seniors.
