For almost 10 years, 40 members of the Copiague Middle School Builders Club, along with their adviser Maria Ostrofsky, have traveled to the Tanner Park Senior Center for Valentine’s Day. During their visit, the students create Valentine’s Day cards for the seniors and deliver the special cards with an artificial rose. With their visit coinciding with the weekly line dancing lessons at the senior center, the students learn the steps to the seniors’ favorite dances. “I like to put a smile on people's faces and make life better for them, if I can,” said eighth-grader Nicholas Hernandez, president of the Builders Club. “I love getting to dance with the seniors. It makes all of us happy and puts a smile on their faces and ours!”
