The Copiague Middle School Builders Club and adviser Maria Ostrofsky recently partnered with the New York City Bowery Mission, which serves homeless New Yorkers, and Give Your Sole, a charity that provides moderately worn athletic shoes to the less fortunate, to organize a shoe drive. During the six-week shoe drive, the student organization collected 550 pairs of shoes.
To thank the students and collect the shoes, GYS East Coast Director of Operations Tom Wicus and Matt Krivich from the Bowery Mission visited the middle school. Wicus discussed GYS and its mission, and informed the students that through their three-year partnership. the Builders Club has collected more than 1,500 pairs of shoes for the charity.
“This is a great charity,” said Mrs. Ostrofsky. “Many people, at one point in their lives, may be down on their luck and in need of a little assistance. This drive allows our students to help those less fortunate, while not placing a large financial burden on those who donate.”
