For the first time in school history, a member of the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Girls Winter Track team qualified for two events at the New York State Public Schools’ Winter Track Championships. High School junior Janel Franis placed sixth in the long jump and in the top 15 for the 55-meter dash. Additionally, for the first time in ten years, a member of the Boys Winter Track team qualified to participate in the state championships. Senior Jarrick Ambrose was part of the Section XI intersectional relay team that placed second in all of New York State. Chris Gaudioso coaches Janel and George Schroeder coaches Jarrick. John Sack is the assistant coach for both the boys’ and girls’ teams.
