On Sunday, November 1, the Copiague School District joined with the Kiwanis of Copiague to participate in the Kiwanis Club’s Field of Honor program. Students from Boy Scout Troop 284, Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School, and the Copiague Middle School Builders Club teamed with the Kiwanis members to install 100 American flags in a military row on the front lawn of the middle school. The flags will be flown throughout the month of November and are available through the Kiwanis Club.
The purpose of this display of patriotism is to pay homage and show honor to past and present veterans who have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedom. Each flag was affixed with a laminated yellow ribbon designating the name of the individual who purchased the flag to support the program, and the name of the veteran being remembered in this special Veterans Day commemoration.
