On May 24, the Copiague Middle School inducted 64 students into its chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). The NJHS ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for students.
To be eligible for membership consideration, students must have a cumulative average of at least 90 percent. In addition, candidates must meet the high standards of Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character. Service and Leadership are based on the student’s participation in community or school activities. Character is measured in terms of integrity, behavior, ethics, and cooperation with both students and faculty. Citizenship is demonstrated by civic involvement.
On hand to congratulate the students for this special achievement were Superintendent of Schools Charles Leunig, members of the Board of Education, Middle School Principal Andrew Lagnado, NJHS co-advisors Kimberly Henson and Francesca Spinelli, and middle school science teacher and special guest speaker Allison Barone, along with other middle school administrators.
