The Copiague Middle School Chamber Choir, under the direction of Gina Occhiogrosso, achieved the highest rating possible at this year's NYSSMA Majors, Gold with Distinction. During their performance, the students performed at Level 2 and sang “Cantante Domino,” “Kyrie Eleison,” and “Three Russian Folk Songs” by Emily Crocker.
At the NYSSMA Major Organization Evaluation Festival the choir is evaluated by a panel of adjudicators/judges who write constructive comments and score the choir in specific areas of performance criteria. The ratings are Certificate of Participation, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Gold with Distinction. Ratings are awarded based upon the judges' assessments of how well the choir has demonstrated its proficiency at the level presented.
Additionally, the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Madrigal Choir received a Silver rating at their NYSSMA Majors performance. The group, along with their director Larry Wurtzel, performed at level 6, the highest possible level. Congratulations to both the Chamber and Madrigal Choirs.
