To commemorate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Booster Club presented a plaque to Karen Steigert, longtime Copiague resident and district employee, for her many years of dedicated service and contributions to the young women of the Copiague community.
Mrs. Steigert is an active member of the Copiague PTA, having held various offices at Deauville Gardens Elementary School, Copiague Middle School, and Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School. Currently, she is the associate director for the Suffolk Region PTA. In addition, she has been a Girl Scout leader for 15 years and a member of the Booster Club.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day is celebrated in all 50 states as a way of honoring the achievements and encouraging participation of girls and women in sports.
