On Thursday November 19th, the Walter G. O'Connell Copiague High School Quiz Bowl team – consisting of captain Jacob Ohrnberger, Sam Cirola, James Nevola, Dan Handy and alternate Che Henderson - competed against Smithtown East at Cablevision's Long Island Challenge. Although the team will not continue on in the competition, school spirit was fully represented. A three-man drum team, eagle mascot (Chris DiSclafani), and 25 cheering friends and family members accompanied the Quiz Bowl team.
The competition was taped at the NEC studios in Manhattan, hosted by Jared Cotter - a 6th season American Idol finalist. “Our team displayed an abundance of goodwill and sportsmanship and helped make this day a fun and memorable one for all who attended,” acknowledged Quiz Bowl advisors Beth Kattleman and Warren Bender.
The show will be broadcast Monday, February 15th on MSG Varsity Channel 14 at 6:30 pm.
