During the November Copiague School District Superintendent’s Conference Day, Superintendent of Schools Charles A. Leunig took a few moments prior to the start of the day’s program to honor four members of his staff for their exceptional work. Copiague Middle School Assistant Principal Benjamin Bonaventura and central office personnel Nancy Chieco, Mary Ellen Ruppert, and Susan Weisenseel were all recognized for their service as Unsung Heroes. “The best way to characterize [Mr. Bonaventura] is as someone who treats everyone like family, someone who is there for students, staff, and everyone in between. This is the type of human being who goes the extra mile for anyone and has the keen ability to hold people accountable while maintaining their pride and sense of worth. Simply put, [he] just ‘gets it,’” remarked Mr. Leunig. In his words regarding Mrs. Chieco, Mrs. Ruppert, and Mrs. Weisenseel, Mr. Leunig stated, “The most common words and phrases used to describe these three deserving ‘unsung heroes’ by their colleagues from the District over their many years of service include: dependable, flexible, dedicated, strong work ethic, professional, friendly. As far as my experience goes, this is the most cohesive team of professionals I have ever worked with in an office setting.” After brief descriptions were given about what has made these four individuals “unsung heroes,” the honorees were each presented with a medallion bearing the District logo and motto.
