It was a night of drama, as Sylvia Walsh’s Advanced Drama class at Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School hosted their annual Drama Night. “We host Drama Night to showcase the learned acting skills of the Advanced Drama students,” explained Ms. Walsh. “Act I showcases scenes and monologues from our English curriculum, while Act II is comedically themed – movie scenes or comedic one-acts.”
The year, the students voted to perform an homage to “Saturday Night Live” titled “Thursday Night Live!” “The students picked the sketches they liked the best and typed out the scripts,” said Ms. Walsh.
Performances from the curriculum-based Act I included scenes from “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “The Outsiders” and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” while the “Saturday Night Live” homage featured such classics as “Weekend Update” and the “Spartan Cheerleaders” skit originally made famous by Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri.
