For the second year in a row, the students at Great Neck Road Elementary School in Copiague participated in a series of winter-related indoor activities coordinated by their physical education teachers, Bill Bennett and Barbara Olsen. During their physical education classes, the gymnasium was transformed into a winter wonderland, with student-created holiday decorations, as the students took part in such activities as ice hockey, ice skating, ring toss, ice bowling, word puzzles, and balance stations. The activities allowed the students to work on their hockey stick handling skills, hand-eye coordination, balance, and overall health. “We decided to bring it back again this year, because the kids had so much fun with it last year,” said Mr. Bennett. Added Ms. Olsen, “The students like the music and independence of this activity. Whenever you add music to physical education, the kids love it.”
