Celebrating the forefathers and current leaders of the United States of America while promoting literacy and parent involvement, Susan E. Wiley Elementary School hosted its annual Parents as Reading Partners program. Sponsored by the PTA, this year’s theme was “Presidents.”
PARP is a collaborative effort among parents, staff and community to build a reading partnership between the home and the school, and encourages parents and guardians to read with their children for at least 15 minutes per day. The goal of the program is to promote family literacy, encourage the development of dedicated reading and provide opportunities for parents to learn ways to support their children’s literacy development.
As an incentive to the students to spend time reading at home with a partner, the class, on each grade level, with the most reading minutes at the end of the program hosted a character party, where the students came to school dressed as the main character from their favorite book.
