Staff members in the Copiague School District gathered the day before school officially started in order to renew acquaintances, celebrate the successes of the previous year, and focus on the District’s goals and vision for the 2009-2010 school year. During the District’s Annual Superintendent’s Conference Day, the staff was also joined by Board of Education President Laura Gavey, First Vice President Rosemary Natoli, Second Vice President Doris Fisher, and trustee Michael Greb. In her message to the staff, Mrs. Gavey thanked everyone for their hard work and commitment to ensuring the success of Copiague’s students. “I know that with your help all our students will receive the best possible education.” Superintendent of Schools Mr. Charles A. Leunig spent the morning sharing the many successes and accomplishments of the students and staff that occurred during the 2008-2009 school year. “You may already be aware of some of the outstanding academic results achieved by our students last year,” said Mr. Leunig. “These achievements are the result of everyone’s commitment to good, solid teaching in a safe and supportive academic environment. I am both hopeful and optimistic as we look forward to even greater success for our students in the upcoming year.” Continuing on Mr. Leunig’s theme, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Kathleen Bannon gave a brief PowerPoint presentation on “Celebrating Our Academic Successes.” She highlighted the District’s, as well as Deauville Gardens Elementary School and the Middle School’s restoration to good academic standing.
