Copiague Middle School eighth-grade science teacher Allison Barone was honored by the Association of School Supervisors of Educational Technology (ASSET) for her exemplary use of educational technologies in the classroom. Recommended for the award by Copiague Middle School Principal Andrew Lagnado and Coordinator of Science Dr. Daniel Leccese, Ms. Barone was recognized at the ASSET Bright Light Luncheon held at the Timber Point Country Club on January 18.“Technology is utilized in my classroom to engage my students and to assess their prior knowledge and comprehension of content material,” said Ms. Barone. SMART Boards, SMART Response software, and laptop carts are just a few of the technologies used in Ms. Barone’s science classroom. She also maintains an eBoard for each of her classes which contains information about upcoming assignments, as well as links to great websites that students can use to further explore a topic or prepare for upcoming exams.“I am very grateful to work in a school district where administrators and the Board of Education provide teachers with opportunities to grow as educators, and with the technological resources necessary to prepare students with skills for the 21st century,” remarked Ms. Barone.
