As part of their study on current events, first-graders in Karen Hawkins’ class at Copiague’s Susan E. Wiley Elementary School held a mock presidential election in conjunction with the real Election Day on Nov. 6. After learning about each candidate, the students cast their own ballots, electing President Barack Obama for a second term over Governor Mitt Romney with a vote of 18-3. Following Election Day, the students wrote President Obama letters of congratulations on his win and wished him well in his second term as president of the United States.
