In commemoration of Veterans Day, Matt Pellettier, a second-year Math teacher at Copiague Middle School, spoke to the history classes about his personal experiences as an Iraqi War veteran and the meaning behind Veterans Day.
Mr. Pellettier was a member of the Army National Guard for six years before he was deployed and sent to Iraq, where he served his country for eleven months. He presented video that showed the students what he experienced firsthand, spoke of his reasons for joining the National Guard, and shared stories of his time in Iraq.
“We celebrate Veterans Day to honor those men and women who sacrificed to protect us and provide us with the freedom we know today,” said Mr. Pellettier to the students in the audience.
Following the presentation, the students participated in a question-and-answer forum with Mr. Pellettier. Questions ranged from where he slept to general questions about Iraq and its people.
