Members of the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Hip Hop Club presented their second annual hip hop show entitled “Taking Back the Music.” “For the past several months, our students have been creating and composing original lyrics and performances, all centered on a campaign of anti-bullying and encouraging students to see past their individual or cultural differences in order to work towards a spirit of unity,” remarked Yvan Garcia, advisor of the Hip Hop Club.
Through the use of music and short, overlying skits, the students were able to focus on overcoming bullying and coming together to work towards positive goals. During the show, the audience enjoyed a special performance from alumna and District Hall of Achievement member Dr. Raina Murnak, as well as a visit from Assemblyman Phil Ramos.
