Eight months after Superstorm Sandy devastated areas of Long Island, including portions of the Copiague School District community, residents are still trying to build back their lives and homes. In order to assist the residents still in need following the storm, members of the Copiague School District elementary TAG program, which includes students from all four Copiague elementary schools and TAG teacher Linda Scarth, raised money through various fundraising activities.
To raise the funds, the fourth- and fifth-grade TAG members organized a festival night where attendees could play games, participate in arts and crafts and enjoy snacks, while the third-grade members hosted a help-a-thon, for which they volunteered their time doing chores in exchange for donations.
To thank the students for their efforts, Town of Babylon Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Copiague Chamber of Commerce President Sharon Fattoruso and Vice President Donna Farina visited with the students and presented them with certificates. The $875 raised by the TAG students will be added to the Chamber’s Sandy funds and distributed to families in the school district.
