On December 7, two Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School seniors were presented with the New York State Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Suffolk Zone Award. Jessica Murphy and Gregory Lane were awarded certificates and gold medals recognizing their outstanding achievement as physical education students, scholars, and citizens. The ceremony was held at the Hyatt Regency Wind Watch in Hauppauge.“Dedication, hard work and determination are all qualities that make up the type of person Jessica Murphy is,” stated Director of Physical Education and Athletics Peter Cesare. “She is always enthusiastic about anything she does, which carries out and influences others to have a positive outlook.” Jessica plans to study law in college.
Gregory Lane has been an ambitious and accomplished student-athlete for all four years of high school. “Because of his competitive spirit, he never settles for less than the best,” remarked Mr. Cesare. Greg is looking forward to earning a degree in mechanical engineering technology after graduation.
