Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School continued its yearly tradition of hosting a Senior-to-Senior Dinner in the school cafeteria for local senior citizens and twelfth-grade students. Weeks of preparation by the senior class, including their advisors Kerri Costadura and Cheryl Feldman, as well assistance from Student Activities Coordinator Toni McIntosh, went into making this an unforgettable event for the more than 300 local senior citizen residents in attendance. The Senior-to-Senior Dinner provides an opportunity for the District and the senior class to thank local senior citizens for their continued support.
During the dinner, everyone in attendance was treated to a rousing performance by the Madrigal Choir. Under the direction of Gina Occhiogrosso, the students performed selections from their winter concert program and led the guests in a sing-along of seasonal favorites such as “Jingle Bells” and “Let It Snow.” Funds for the night, which included dinner and a DJ, were raised through various projects by the Class of 2012, including the ever-popular students versus staff volleyball game. “I think tonight is one of the most important community outreach programs our senior class is involved with,” remarked Ms. Costadura. “It allows our seniors to keep a connection with the local senior citizens, as well as provides a great opportunity for our students to take pride in themselves and in their school by acting as hosts.”
