To celebrate the rich diversity within their school and community, members of the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Intercultural Club hosted the first annual Cultural Fusion. Organized by the club members, with assistance from club advisor Danielle Poletti, audience members were treated to dancing, singing, and poetry reading from various cultures throughout the world. Prior to each performance, student presenters discussed the origin and history of the dance, including the samba (Brazil), salsa (Cuba), Bollywood (India), and gumboot (South Africa). Performing the dances were members of the Spanish Club, Step Team, and Conciencia Latina, while the Madrigal Choir sang songs from Portugal and the continent of Africa. Following the performances, the audience members traveled to the cafeteria, where they enjoyed a sampling of various dishes from around the world prepared by students and their families, with assistance from the Culinary Club.
