To culminate her students’ unit on sculptures and study of artist Tim Burton, Copiague Middle School art teacher Maria Ostrofsky hosted an artist reception for the students in her seventh-grade art class and their families. The reception was held for the official unveiling of the students’ art pieces, which are on display in the main hallway of the middle school.
Utilizing wire, newspaper, wheat paste and their imagination, the students created 3-D wire armatures. Their sculptures, which they worked on for more than a month, had to include hands, arms and a body while being shaped in motion. The 27 art pieces include dancers, athletes and even a ninja.
