Dancing the Night Away

It was a night to remember as more than 300 local senior citizens gathered in the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School cafeteria to celebrate the annual Senior to Senior Dinner, hosted by the Class of 2013. The event provides students with an opportunity to thank senior citizens within the district’s community for their continued support of their education. To kick off the program, the Madrigal Choir, under the direction of Gina Occhiogrosso, performed selections from their winter concert program before breaking off into the crowd to join their guests in a sing-a-long of holiday favorites, including “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Let It Snow.” Following the sing-a-long, the senior citizens enjoyed a buffet-style dinner, which they worked off afterwards by dancing to today’s hits and yesterday’s classics. “I love this event,” said senior Cristina Hernandez. “It really is a great time for both the students and the senior citizens.” Added senior Shanna Fitzpatrick, “I like interacting with the seniors. It’s really great to see the smiles on their faces and know that they’re having a great time.” The yearly event was organized by the Class of 2013, their advisers Deborah DeLancy and Jean Ann Kohn and Student Activities Coordinator Toni MacIntosh and paid for through fundraising by the senior class.
