Throughout the Copiague School District, students have been hosting fundraisers for food, clothing, school supplies and toys this holiday season. At Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School, one student volunteer group focused on an item that is typically overlooked – socks! With the assistance of their advisers Dr. Linda Caputo and Alline Torrey, the Copiague Heroes organized Operation Happy Feet and collected new socks that would be donated to families within the school community that were affected by Superstorm Sandy. “With so many people in our community losing all of their belongings, we thought this would be a great fundraiser – cute, easy and affordable,” said senior Tania Reyes, project manager for Operation Happy Feet.
