To commemorate October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the girls varsity volleyball and field hockey teams at Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School held separate fundraisers during their Oct. 18 games. The volleyball team and their coach, John Sack, hosted a Dig Pink match against Deer Park. Dig Pink is a national event sponsored by the Side-Out Foundation to educate the public about breast cancer and to help eradicate this illness. Additionally, the field hockey team and their coach, Patricia Stein, raised funds during their game against Patchogue-Medford and donated the proceeds to the Suffolk County Field Hockey Coaches Association, who will in turn distribute the funds to cancer societies.
